Gowanus Furniture Coignet Compact Lime Board

BROOKLYN CRAFT CENTRAL HOLIDAY MARKET FEATURED VENDOR!

We’re excited that we will see so many cherished friends at the Brooklyn Craft Central Holiday Market, but today Markets of New York features a new vendor that we have not yet met.

Gowanus Furniture was founded in 2011 by Pete Raho to create high quality, locally-made furniture for small spaces. Their intial product line features a range of beautiful cutting boards, and their blog promises tables, bike racks and other products coming soon. The picture above is an image from their website of the Coignet Compact Lime Board.

Come meet the folks of Gowanus Furniture at the Brooklyn Craft Central Holiday Market on Sunday, December 18, and at the Brooklyn Flea this Saturday, December 10.  (The Brooklyn Craft Central Market runs Saturday and Sunday, December 17-18, with a completely new group of vendors each day!)

RockSaltLamp

I saw this beautiful rock salt orb lamp at Susans Beeswax Candles & Himalayan Rock Salt Products while browsing this past weekend at the Union Square Holiday Market.  These lamps make attractive art gifts and create a soothing environment in office or home.

We also tried their delicious pink Himalayan table salt at a dinner party we hosted on Saturday in place of regular sea salt.  We use antique salt cellars, and this salt was not only tangy and tasty, but its lovely color added to the table decor.

You can meet Susan and Susan (hence Susans) through the holiday season and try out their products for yourself!

New York City Subway Map by Lineposters

BROOKLYN CRAFT CENTRAL HOLIDAY MARKET FEATURED VENDOR!

The New York City subway is an icon, as are the Paris Metro and London’s Tube. And it turns out that the routes they each travel create lovely, flowing designs. That’s what Cayla and John of Lineposters discovered when they took a bird’s eye view of the great subway systems of the world.

Lineposter images are clean, colorful graphic prints featuring the subways in beloved cities, including New York, London, Paris, and Berlin, as well as Washington DC, San Francisco, and Chicago.

Come meet Cayla and John in person at the Brooklyn Craft Central Holiday Market on December 17 & 18, and every day through December 24th at the Columbus Circle Holiday Market!

Merlot Salt from The Filling Station

In Old World Europe, you can take your bottles to a local shop and refill them with olive oil and wine.  This charming custom is revived by The Filling Station, a lovely company inside Chelsea Market and currently at the Union Square Holiday Market this season, that sells all natural extra virgin olive oils, specialty oils, balsamic vinegars, exotic salts, facial & body scrubs and even local and imported craft beer both local and imported.

You make your first purchase at the Filling Station, and then they encourage you to clean the bottle and bring it back for refills.  The practice encourages recycling, and you enjoy a 10% discount on your subsequent purchases.

The Filling Station’s products are all beautiful and high quality.  The color of this particular Merlot Salt caught my eye as I walked by their boutique at the Holiday Market.  It is so unusual – a striking pink with purple tones and a rich, distinct flavor.  You can use it to flavor grilled meats and as a finishing salt on savory dishes.  I imagine a salt caramel would be even more special with pink granules as well.  It also adds a punch of color to your table in a salt cellar or a glass salt shaker.

If you have foodies and cooks on your holiday gift list, definitely shop at The Filling Station!
