I participated in the Women’s March in NYC yesterday, and I was delighted by all the pink pussy hats. I took pictures and talked with all the women and men I could about their hats. Every hat has a story. I loved the ones made by mothers and grandmothers across the country for their marching children and grandchildren in New York. Or groups with that one crafty friend who knit hats for everyone. Lots of little kids were sporting beautifully knit or crocheted pink winter hats.

I made mine out of a teensy, pink, cashmere sweater that had belonged to my mom.The sweater was way too small for me to wear – ever –  so I upcycled it. The main part is a now a belly warmer, and the shoulders and sleeves are a lovely shrug. For the march, I cut the turtleneck from the sweater, sewed up one side, and voila: Pussy Hat! Plus, I felt like I was taking my mom to march along with me. We went to a lot of protests when I lived in DC, usually ending with tea at the Mayflower Hotel.

Enjoy all these hats! It was too crazy and crowded to capture every story, but each story was unique and moving. I’d love to see your pussy hats! Post your photos and stories to my Facebook Page - and tag your photos on Instagram with #pussyhatstories!
Keep marching!
