Photo of the Day, May 15, 2012: Peonies from James Durr Farm

Peonies are my very favorite flower in the whole wide world. I love all flowers, but there's a special place in my heart for peonies. They are absolutely gorgeous and romantic, and they smell so wonderful. This weekend James picked up an armload of different kinds of peonies from James Durr Wholesale Florist out of Burlington County, New Jersey at the Union Square Greenmarket.

My Market Treasures – Raab, Scarves & Monsters

How about the weather this weekend?! I hope you were able to spend time outside with your mom! I gave two tours of the World Trade Center Memorial Plaza on Saturday, but James brought home some tasty treats from the Greenmarket. (I've been a volunteer tour guide of the World Trade Center site with the 9/11 Families Association since 2006.) He cooked up the gorgeous, leafy kale in the photo with some ramp butter and the last of the fat ramps in the market for dinner last night. He also got several round ruisbrods, but we at them up before I could take their portraits. Next time for sure!

Photo of the Day May 8, 2012: Sweatertoys

The thing about this sweet pink hippo from Sweatertoys, the brown elephant, and the red squirrel, is that they seem so soulful. They have expressions and characters all their own. And because they are handmade from the softest of recycled sweaters and vintage fabrics, each little animal is one-of-a kind.

Do You Recognize This Earring?

I received an email from the person who purchased this earring and necklace set at the Union Square Holiday Market in December. She has lost one of the earrings, and she would love to contact the jewelry designer who made them so that she can replace the missing earring. But she doesn't have the name of the designer, and the holiday market team does not recognize these particular pieces. I don't recognize them either.

Farewell to A Wonderful Man

I have been absent from the blog for a few days because my wonderful, witty, loving, mensch of a father-in-law Fred Wesolowski passed away suddenly last Friday.
Photo of the Day – April 26, 2012: Ebb and Flow

My husband James loves the fact that there are many wonderful soap designers in New York City, and that he never has to settle for a bar of Dove or Lava at the supermarket anymore.
One great example comes from the lovely container stores at the Dekalb Market, where we met recently with Rupal Bhindu, founder of [...]
