Abbottkinney At The Antiques Garage: Treasures Across The Ages

If you haven’t visited the Antiques Garage recently, or ever, you really must do so this coming weekend or soon thereafter. This large, two-level antique and flea market is one of my favorite places to find the bits and pieces of design, decor, kitchenware, clothing, books, jewelry, art and so much more that have survived the test of time.

Abbottkinney Modern Vintage is one of the most intriguing collections to explore at the Garage. It is the first shop straight ahead as you come in from the 26th Street entrance. Look for the beautiful vintage clothing hanging on the wall, and follow the garments down into the shop itself.

Abbottkinney is one of those vintage shops where something takes makes you breathe in and raise your eyebrows away at every turn: the stacks of vintage flatware and Bakelite handled kitchen utensils. An antique fire extinguisher – I’ve never even thought about one, let alone seen one. Trays of rhinestone studded brooches and trunks filled with handbags. And then there are all of the personal, decorative items that were obviously treasured by someone in their day.

The fashion along the wall is fascinating as well. You will find antique lingerie alongside party dresses from different eras, as well as groovy maxi dresses from the 1970’s. I spotted a sweet, pink Pucci scarf tucked in among the dresses and jackets. You just never know what you will find if you look long and hard enough.
