Alyxia Leaf Jewelry: Adorn Yourself With Flora and Fauna
Leaves just lend themselves to becoming jewelry, don’t they? They hang leisurely from their tree branches, swaying in the breeze and enhancing the tree for three wonderful seasons of the year.
So naturally, Alyxia Leaf Jewelry caught my eye at Artists & Fleas. The soothing wooden and marble booth carefully displays their delicate jewelry designs, which include a striking collection of actual leaves that have been preserved in metals using a process called electroforming.
Owner and designer Aaron Fisher, who is originally from Australia, and his business partner Michael Quan transformed Alyxia Leaf from a hobby into a wonderful and unique line of jewelry and other metal coated treasures. Their natural earrings are made from leaves they find in the parks and on the streets of New York City, with the exception of Alyxia leaves, which they have sent from Down Under.
Each individual leaf is distinctly preserved with its original shape and contours. Aaron then makes them into earrings and necklaces, including designs for men featuring leaves on braided leather necklaces.
Aaron also creates jewelry made from real fauna: elegant beetles and light butterfly wings, as well as sweet sea horses. In addition to jewelry, the Alyxia Leaf collection also includes gold and silver roses, which make a wonderful and meaningful gift for someone special.
But the item that would be a great gift for someone seriously special is their gold and silver electroformed crocodile skull. Aaron hinted that he may be experimenting next with a bull skull. Coincidentally, I have just the place for it above my desk.
With fall just around the corner, now is the time to get your own leafy adornments. Luckily for us, Alyxia Leaf is offering $10 off your purchase of a set of earrings and a necklace if you mention Markets of New York City!
