I do love gluten. In fact, if you’re unable or uninterested in eating it, I’ll have yours. However, I sympathize with people who cannot or don’t want to eat it. And so I am very excited to know about Meryienda Gluten Free Bake Shop! Baker Elvira Acosta loves cookies, but she cannot eat gluten at all. So she started making all the things she missed: cookies, bars and brownies.

And they are delicious! I was particularly excited about the peanut butter chocolate bar and the oatmeal pumpkin spice cookies. The snickerdoodle was a special treat too. I love how the sugar crystals crunched before I got to the soft cookie. Elvira’s Filipino-inspired bars are a sweet nod to her heritage. Meryienda means “snack” in Tagalog.  (**Please note that the Queens County Market is hosting a benefit for hurricane victims in the Philippines.)

Elvira makes all her products in a completely gluten-free environment. So you can rest assured that there is no cross-over. This is the kind of care and concern for details that you get from a company like Meryienda that was founded on a need and a passion. Actually two passions: baking and cookies!
