Olde Sanctuary: A Vintage Shop for Rock Stars, Gypsies and Rainbow Warriors

Olde Sanctuary Vintage Shop in The Underground at The Market NYC

As I recently found out, the group of vendors in the lower level at The Market NYC has dubbed their space The Underground. It’s a cool, cozy space with a lot of great handmade and vintage products and a nice vibe.

At the far end, I came across a beautifully curated vintage shop called

Olde Sanctuary. Lit up with twinkly lights, the shop is filled with treasures and charm.

The owner of Olde Sanctuary is Emalynne Brushey. She is also a professional stylist, who has worked with the likes of Dita Von Tease. Her eye for design is clearly evident in the quality of the items in her shop and and the attractive displays she creates for them. She collects unique vintage items from around the world and makes them beautiful again in their new context, like the clover green letter jacket (pictured) covered in high school choir and band patches. It’s going to look incredibly cool on someone else this time around. (I can say that because I was in choir. And on the debate team. Don’t judge.)

I also liked that Olde Sanctuary has a great mix of clothing and shoes for both men and women. I noticed the cowboy boots and the vintage Air Jordans. I actually own a pair of Frye “belted harness mules” just like the ones I saw here, and I can promise you that they just get better with age. I don’t know much about vintage sneakers, but these ones were all in excellent shape. After looking up “vintage Air Jordans” on the Internet, I learned within 5 seconds that they can go for double to quadruple digits, depending on the model and year.

The Olde Sanctuary shop is open Wednesdays through Sundays every week in The Market NYC on 159 Bleecker Street at Thompson. Stop in to pick up some girly summer frocks and vintage jewelry, some cool old bar ware, or a pair of soft cowboy boots.
