Pelzer’s Pretzels To Open A Shop In Crown Heights

Pelzers Everything_group_medium

The first time I tasted Pelzer’s Pretzels was April 2012 at the Vegan Shop Up in Bushwick. I knew immediately that they were onto something good and new in the artisanal food markets. We have good pretzels in the city, but Pelzer’s brought soft, buttery Philadelphia style pretzels to the table. They are yummy on their own, and they make incredible sandwiches too.

I next saw owners Leon and Barella Kirkland at the Brooklyn Flea’s Smorgasburg, where their fresh, warm pretzels were flying off the table. And now this: they are opening their first retail shop in Brooklyn! I am so excited for them, their community of Crown Heights and the food world in general. Join me on Saturday at their Grand Opening!

What: Pelzer’s Pretzels Grand Opening When: Saturday, October 12, 2013, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Where: 724 Sterling Place (Between Franklin and Bedford Avenues), Brooklyn, NY

Brooklyn, New York – October 7, 2013 – Pelzer’s of Philadelphia Pretzels, Inc. (“Pelzer’s Pretzels”), an artisanal bakery specializing in handmade Philadelphia-style soft pretzels, will celebrate the grand opening of its first brick-and-mortar store located at 724 Sterling Place in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, this Saturday, October 12, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m.

Having successfully partnered with Smorgasburg, GoodEggs.com and Fab.com, the company now joins a diverse set of new food businesses that is transforming the area of Crown Heights around Franklin Avenue north of Eastern Parkway.  The Pelzer’s Pretzels retail store will offer fresh-baked pretzels in a variety of flavors, Philadelphia regional snacks, coffee and soft drinks for take-out with limited seating.  As a mom-and-pop operation (Co-owners Barella and Leon Kirkland literally became mom and pop four months ago!) the store will initially operate Friday through Monday – 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekends.

Pelzer’s Pretzels was founded in 2012 by a Brooklyn-transplanted Philadelphia native attorney (Leon Kirkland) and Washington, D.C. native beauty marketer (Barella Kirkland) to address the insufferable dearth of quality soft pretzels in New York City.  In addition to its retail and online offerings, Pelzer’s Pretzels now offers home delivery in Brooklyn through GoodEggs.com and provides special events catering.  Past catering customers of Pelzer’s Pretzels include: The Gap, GQ Magazine, Deutsch Inc., Burton Snowboards, Brooklyn Industries, Governors Ball, Honeywell and General Assembly.
