My dad collected orchids all over the world, from the jungles of Brazil to the Arctic. James and I have a great collection of orchids that we rescued from the trash room of our building. People just throw them out after the blooms have gone. But we know better. One of our rescued orchids bloomed from November 2011 until just this past week. They are amazing plants. There is nothing more rewarding than getting an orchid to bloom. Except maybe the smile on your mom’s face when you hand her one on Sunday.
