Weekend Market Picks April 2 & 3, 2016: Blustery Spring Weather Fun

Bright Spring Sunshine in the Union Square Greenmarket

Bright Spring Sunshine in the Union Square Greenmarket

Spring is doing its crazy thing this weekend. Boots? Sandals? T-shirts? Turtlenecks? Umbrellas? Sunglasses? Looks like it’s all of the above. So grab your gear (all you can carry) and go enjoy the season because it’s a short one, and the trees are blooming. Just check the websites and social media pages before you go to see if there have been any weather-related closings. Holding down a market tent in the wind is like hang gliding without jumping off a cliff.

Weekend Market Picks:

Saturday, April 2, 2016

East 67th Street Flea and Farmers Market: On a blustery day, you can find fresh produce and baked goods outdoors under a tent in the protected schoolyard, and beautiful antiques and flea finds inside the school cafeteria. 10AM to 5PM, East 67th Street between 1st and York, Manhattan

82nd Street, St. Stephen’s Greenmarket: If you’re up for a stroll after you’ve shopped in the East 67th Street Flea, walk up 1st or York Avenues to the nearby greenmarket for some fresh produce, baked goods, produce and dairy. Plus textile recycling and compost collection. 9AM – 2:30PM, 82nd Street between 1st and York, Manhattan

Saturday & Sunday, April 2 & 3, 2016

Artists & Fleas in Chelsea Market: If you haven’t visited this exciting market on the 10th Avenue side of Chelsea Market, it’s time to go back. There are new vendors to meet, and many of the long-term vendors have updated and redesigned their spaces. They are clever in every sense of the word! 10AM – 9PM Monday – Saturday, 10AM – 8PM Sunday, 88 10th Avenue at West 15th Street, Manhattan

Grand Opening! Brooklyn Flea Outdoors: It’s a new season outside for the Brooklyn Flea’s artisan, flea, vintage and food vendors. This year promises to be as great as the previous years, if not even better. 10AM – 5PM, Saturdays: 176 Lafayette Avenue, Fort Greene, Brooklyn, Sundays: Manhattan Bridge Archway Plaza, DUMBO, Brooklyn

EscapeMaker’s Pop Up Shop at the Fulton Stall Market: Find out about beautiful local getaways to farms, breweries, and wineries this weekend at the Seaport’s Fulton Stall Market, which features local foods and fresh farm produce. 10AM – 5PM, 207 Front Street, Manhattan

Fun In Jersey! SCA Holi Festival of Colors: Cool things happen in Jersey too! Holi is the Hindu Festival of Colors, and this event promises to be filled with bright colors, food, music, and artisan goods. Sponsored by the Saraswati Cultural Association. RSVP required so they can make sure they have enough Holi colors for everybody. 12PM – 4PM, Edward A Grekoski Park, South River, NJ

Real NYC Designer Market: This fashion, art, and design market in Little Italy is actually open all week, with beautiful and innovative creations from 30+ local designers and artisans. Saturdays, 11AM – 11PM, Sundays 11AM – 8PM, 166 Mulberry Street, Manhattan

St. Anthony’s Market: Every weekend, the sidewalks on Houston Street are filled with entrepreneurs selling very cool stuff. I recently bought a beautiful, handpoured candle (spruce scented), and I have my eye on some soft cotton shirts from India. 10AM – Dusk, West Houston between Thompson & MacDougal Street, Manhattan

Grand Opening! Smorgasburg Outdoors: New York’s prime destination for people who love amazing food! I went to a tasting with the new vendors this week, and every single one of them blew me away. 11AM – 6PM, Saturdays: East River State Park, Sundays: Prospect Park, Brooklyn

Sunday, April 3, 2016

Jackson Heights Greenmarket: I love this greenmarket because of the variety of fresh farm products, and also because of the beautiful trees that shade the market tents. It’s one of the best markets for people watching too. Plus textile recycling and compost collection. 8AM – 3PM, 34th Avenue at 78th Street, Queens

Opening Monday April 4 – 10, 2016

ID Pop Shop: Meet many of New York’s top independent designers of fashion, accessories, home decor and more at this week-long pop-up in Chelsea Market. 10:30AM – 7:30PM, in Chelsea Market, 75 9th Avenue, Manhattan
