Weekend Market Picks July 22 & 23, 2017: Mid Summer Delights

Handmade Leather Goods by Aixa Sobin

Handmade Leather Goods by Aixa Sobin across from

I ran into Aixa Sobin, the amazing leather artisan I wrote about a while back. She sells her beautiful notebooks, bags, belts, and pencil rolls out on the sidewalk of Spring Street across from Balthazar Bakery (location, location, location). I carry a small notebook I got from her, and it’s seen better days. She sewed it up for me, and it’s as good as new. Aixa’s Etsy store is Luscious Leather NYC.

I also wanted to give a shout out for my friend Cezar Del Valle, New York’s premier theater historian, who will be telling stories and sharing historic photos at the Coney Island Museum on Saturday. You won’t want to miss this event if you love fabulous stories about New York’s most creative people throughout its history.

Nerd Swap Episode 2: Attack of the Swap: Our good friends at the skint are hosting their second swap meet. It’s not exactly a market, but who doesn’t like a good swap? Bring your nerdiest stuff to trade for new or nerdier stuff with people who share your passions. 3PM – 6PM, Commonwealth Bar, 497 Fifth Avenue, Brooklyn

Rejuvenation Farmers Market: FLO Yoga is hosting this lovely market where you can purchase local handmade products focusing on health and well-being. Free mini massages and reiki sessions too! 10AM – 5PM, FLOgaYoga, 226 East 54th Street, Fl. 7, Manhattan

LIC Flea Wine & Sweets Festival: I love the sound of this event! The wine tastings run the gambit from light Riesling to Nero D’Avola – almost 20 to choose from. And the sweets? Think shortbread, waffles, and frozen treats. Tickets required for wine tastings and 3 sweets. 12noon – 6PM, 5-25 46th Avenue, LIC, Queens

Nolita Outdoor Market: Look for the pretty, uniform umbrellas along the brick wall of St. Patrick’s Old Cathedral on Prince Street, and you’ll be surprised and delighted by the quality of the handmade products at this market. Jewelry, clothing, candles, it’s hard for me to walk by without finding a treasure I can’t leave behind. 10AM – 7PM, Prince Street between Mulberry & Mott Streets, Manhattan
