Weekend Market Picks June 27 & 28, 2015: What To Do With Kohlrabi?

Kohlrabi

I think kohlrabi is beautiful, but, honestly, I have no idea what to do with it. I’ve looked up some recipes, but I don’t even know where to start. So if you can point me in the right direction towards your own favorite recipes, I’d love to learn what to do and how to eat kohlrabi. These ones are from the wonderful Roots to River Farm at the Down To Earth Chelsea Farmers Market, (Saturdays on 23rd and 9th).

Weekend Market Picks

Saturday, June 27, 2015

Renegade Craft Fair: This Saturday marks the last of four Saturday popup events for Renegade in Brooklyn this time around, so don’t miss out on amazing handmade crafts! 11AM – 6PM, East River State Park, Brooklyn

GrowNYC Stop ‘N Swap: Bring clean, reusable, portable items such as clothing, house wares, games, books, & toys that you no longer need, and take home something new-to-you, free! You don’t have to bring something to take something. No furniture or large items, please. 12PM-3PM, Fordham Manor Reformed Church, 2705 Reservoir Avenue, Bronx

Tucker Square Greenmarket: I love the idea of shopping for eggs, herbs, veggies, fruits, bread and flowers so close to Lincoln Center, connecting the lofty world of music and the arts to the earthy luxuries of locally grown foods, including Piedmontese beef from Stony Mountain Ranch. 8AM – 5PM, W 66th Street & Columbus Avenue, Manhattan

Saturday & Sunday, June 27 & 28, 2015

Hell’s Kitchen Flea: This large, outdoor flea and vintage market is where you go to see what’s been inside New York’s closets and cupboards. Amazing vintage clothing, shoes, accessories, home decor and more. 9AM – 5PM, West 39th Street between 9th & 10th Avenues, Manhattan

Just Between Friends Consignment Sale: If you have kids, you don’t want to miss this event! Buy and sell “gently used clothing, toys, electronics, books, baby goods, furniture and more are all priced 50 to 90 percent off retail. The organizers will also buy back Graco Alano, Passage or Spree strollers that were recalled in 2010 with $25 certificates to spend at the consignment sale.” 10AM to 6:30PM Saturday, 11AM to 6:30PM Sunday, Our Lady of Pompeii Church, 25 Carmine Street (entrance on Bleecker Street), Manhattan

Bleecker Street Artisan and Vintage Market: While you’re at Our Lady of Pompeii, do spend some time strolling through this lovely sidewalk market. Find handmade and vintage treasures, including rare Bakelite jewelry. 11AM – 6PM, Bleecker Street between Leroy and Carmine, Manhattan

The Market NYC: Also on Bleecker Street, just a few blocks west, is The Market NYC, a large indoor market with individual designer boutiques throughout. Fashion, accessories, art, jewelry and more! They also have their newest location in Williamsburg if you find yourself in that neighborhood.
