Weekend Market Picks March 14-16, 2014: Rich Compost and Wiggler Worms

Real NYC Compost from the LES Ecology Center

I have to give a big shout out to the Lower East Side Ecology Center and their important composting program. Every weekend in New York City, you can drop off your compostables in bins at the Union Square Greenmarket.

You can also pick up a large or small bag of nutrient rich Paydirt Potting Soil, made from NYC’s own composted scraps, with a bit of help from our friends the red wiggler worms. It’s perfect for planting your summer garden on the fire escape.

With Earth Day coming up in April, you may want to order up your own Worm Condo. (Let’s face it – for most of us, it’s the only way we’ll ever become actual condo owners in this town! Am I right?)

 Weekend Market Picks

Friday, March 14, 2014

City Hall Greenmarket: OPENING WEEK! This scenic greenmarket alongside New York’s City Hall opened for the season on Tuesday. It will run every Fridays and Tuesday through December.  8AM – 4PM, Broadway at Chambers Street, Manhattan [Map]

Friday, Saturday & Sunday, March 14 – 16, 2014

ID Pop Shop: ID Pop Shop is hopping this weekend with another wonderful collection of New York designers. Pick up killer sunglasses, fabulous fashion and awesome accessories for spring! Baby things too this time around! 10:30AM – 7:30PM, 75 9th Avenue, Chelsea Market, Manhattan [Map]

Saturday & Sunday, March 15-16, 2014

Nolita Market: OPENING DAY! This picturesque market is opening for the season out on the sidewalks of Soho/Nolita. It is always filled with unique and high quality handmade jewelry, accessories, t-shirts and more! 11AM – 7PM, Prince Street between Mulberry and Mott, Manhattan [Map]

Real NYC Designer Market: The market is back open again this weekend after a brief hiatus! It is just a few feet from the Nolita Market, so don’t miss either of them. This week’s collection of New York designers will be inspirational for your wardrobe and your jewelry box! Entrance just past the red doors. 11AM – 7PM, 233 Mott Street, Manhattan [Map]

Sunday, March 16, 2014

Greenflea: This classic flea should have more outdoor vendors in the nice weather this weekend! But don’t miss the indoor market in the hallways and the cafeteria. You are guaranteed to find a treasure or two! 10AM – 6PM, Columbus Avenue between 76th and 77th Street West, Manhattan [Map]

West 79th Street Greenmarket: I like to recommend this bountiful farmers market along with the Greenflea because they are kitty-corner from each other on Columbus Avenue. This market is a one of our larger ones, with over 30 vendors. Stroll through for a snack or pick up healthy ingredients for the week ahead! 9AM – 5Pm, Columbus Avenue between 78th & 81st Streets, Manhattan [Map]
