Weekend Market Picks September 9 & 10, 2017: Wilklow Orchards

Herilooms Galore from Wilklow Orchards

Herilooms Galore from Wilklow Orchards

This spring, Wilklow Orchards arrived in Union Square! They’ve been selling their incredible array of tomatoes and other fresh produce and baked goods in Brooklyn greenmarkets for decades. And now, every Monday, we can find them in Union Square. I, for one, have been gorging on their colorful and delicious heirloom tomatoes.  They also make hard cider from their own apples. Come on Mondays and pick up some green zebras or black princes!

Weekend Market Picks

Saturday, September 9, 2017

Chelsea Farmers Market: It’s funny to think of Chelsea as a food desert, but there is a paucity of fresh produce there if you don’t want to walk to Union Square or to the Village to find a closer market. That’s why Down To Earth’s Saturday market is so special – it brings beautiful produce and freshly prepared foods to the neighborhood. 9AM – 4PM, Sidewalk on North side of 23rd Street, E of 9th Avenue, Manhattan

South Bronx Farmers Market: This important market serves its local community by bringing fresh farm produce every Saturday, plus herbs, proteins, baked goods, and even particularly local produce from a hydroponic farm, Sky Vegetables, right in the Bronx. 1oAM – 4PM, 138th Street, between Willis and Alexander Avenues, in Mott Haven, South

Saturday & Sunday, September 9 & 10, 2017

Brooklyn Flea: The Brooklyn Flea is open on Saturdays and Sundays in Soho (Manhattan!) and Sundays in Soho. Both locations feature the same cool vintage and antique vendors, as well as fine craft artisans. 10AM – 6PM, 100 Avenue of the Americas, Manhattan: 80 Pearl Street, Manhattan Bridge Archway, Brooklyn

Dekalb Market Hall: Have you been to the new Dekalb Food Hall? It’s wonderful new place to taste fabulous local foods, including BBQ, Asian Food, Mexican fare, and much, much more, including my favorite Got Cake pops (you get to design your own)! 455 Albee Square, 11AM – 10PM, Brooklyn

Hell’s Kitchen Flea Market: Looking for a vintage treasure, or that perfect accent piece for your new apartment? Get over to the Hell’s Kitchen Flea then, and also enjoy live jazz, pet adoptions, and also local artists from the neighborhood. 9AM – 6PM, West 39th Street between 9th and 10th Avenues, Manhattan

LIC Flea: LIC Flea is the best place to go to keep the summer spirit going even with hints of fall in the air. Grab a few cold brews from Queens, taste delicious sweet and savory foods from around the world, and shop clever craft artisans and vintage collections. 11AM – 6PM, 5-25 46th Avenue, Long Island City, Queensrgers

Mad. Sq. Eats: It’s back! Look for the festive lights and the pink Merimekko umbrellas because beneath them are some mouthwatering food vendors. You can find everything from burgers, baked cheese, and paella to ice cream sandwiches, and fried chicken in waffle cones. Plus beers! Open Mon – Fri through June 9th, 11AM – 9PM, Worth Square – 5th Avenue between 25th and 26th Streets, Manhattan

Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit: Back for it’s 86th year (!), this wonderful fine arts and artisans show takes over the sidewalks on University Place near Washington Square, where it first started. Stroll among the paintings, water colors, sculptures, and craft artisans all weekend. 12PM – 6PM, University Place, starting at East 13th Street and continuing south along the east side of Washington Square Park to West 3rd Street, Manhattan

Sunday, September 10, 2017

Full Moon Market: It’s time again for this market filled with crystals, tarot, magical talismans, jewelry, and much more. Plus drinkies and snacks! 1PM – 6PM, Catland, 987 Flushing Ave, Brooklyn

Grand Bazaar’s First Anniversary: Happy Birthday to this wonderful market! It’s hared to believe it has been open for just a year. The new management has been incredibly successful in revitalizing this fun and important market on the Upper West Side. Here’s to many more years of fun shopping and snacking! 10AM – 5:30PM, 100 West 77th Street at Columbus Avenue, Manhattan

Opening Monday, September 11, 2017

ID Pop Shop: Shop here for your new fall look! New York’s extremely talented independent designers gather at this week-long monthly pop up in Chelsea Market to find the trends of tomorrow. Fashion, jewelry, decor and much more. 10:30AM – 7:30PM, 75 9th Avenue, Manhattan
