Shaya NYC Teams Up with AYUDA for Youth Diabetes Education and Empowerment

I am thrilled to be a part of the team promoting this important campaign with ShayaNYC and AYUDA to help children and young people with diabetes in Latin America, as well as their communities, thrive through leadership training and education.

AYUDA (American Youth Understanding Diabetes Abroad, Inc.) and Shaya NYC are pleased to announce the launch of an exclusive necklace design created to help promote diabetes awareness.

New York based jewelry designer Shaya Mehubad of Shaya NYC Fine Handcrafted Jewelry is holding a fundraising promotion to support AYUDA’s mission to empower youth to serve as agents of change in diabetes communities around the world. Shaya has created an exclusive design, the LB Necklace, and he will be donating a portion of the proceeds from sales during the month of September to support AYUDA’s programs.

Established in 1996, AYUDA’s innovative peer learning model uses international volunteers as catalysts, to work together with local type 1 diabetes communities to develop and implement sustainable, culturally appropriate in-country programs for young people with diabetes.

“We are honored to have the creative vision and support of Shaya NYC to strengthen our in-country programs in Latin America and ensure that young people with diabetes continue to live happier, healthier lives,” said Dr. Nick Cuttriss, co-Founder AYUDA.

Named after a friend of the designer and AYUDA volunteer alumna, the LB Necklace features four hand-hammered metal beads on a silver chain. Each bead is one of a kind and has its own distinct characteristics, “Just like each one of us,” says Shaya.

“The beads are plated in silver, 18k gold, rose gold and gunmetal, four different colors representing the fact diabetes can affect any person regardless race, color, gender, age or origin,” says Shaya.

”The silver chain running through the beads symbolizes that it is possible to live, thrive and have a bright, happy life with diabetes. But to do that successfully, you need to be educated, have access to medicines and supplies and keep a positive attitude!”

The LB Necklace is available for $50.00 exclusively during the month of September, 2012 online at www.ShayaNYC.com.
