I have known Arsham Bekarian of Atlantis Jewelry for several years now, and I am so happy to feature his beautiful jewelry designs here on Markets of New York City!

Originally from Turkey, Arsham started as an apprentice jewelry maker at a young age. I love hearing him talk about his colorful designs, which range from rich statement pieces to the delicate and subtle. It is amazing to me how every piece he makes has substance. By that, I mean that these designs, like the brown diamond above, have both a lightness and a weightiness to them, no matter how bold or dainty they are, like the necklaces in the images below. (Yes, you can find real diamonds in our markets!)

Arsham has set up his boutiques in markets around the city, including a lovely space in the Union Square Holiday Market every year. You can find Atlantis Jewelry this weekend two locations in Chelsea Market: ID Pop Shop through Sunday, and semi-permanently, at least through the holidays, at Artists & Fleas.

This weekend Arsham is also setting up on the newly restored boardwalk in Long Beach, which was badly damaged during by Hurricane Sandy.

My friend Fizzy Lizzy bought a beautiful charm necklace with a nautical theme from Arsham that she wears all the time. And she should wear it all the time because it looks perfect on her. You will find the perfect piece for yourself from the wonderful Atlantis Jewelry collections in the markets this weekend.

Weekend Market Picks

Saturday, August 24, 2013

Hester Street Fair: If you haven’t made it down to the Hester Street Fair yet this summer, this is the weekend to do it. Take a leisurely stroll among the vintage and artisan vendors, and sit down for a tasty lunch from the food vendors towards the back of the market. There are picnic tables too, so take a load off and chat with fellow shoppers. 10AM – 6PM, Hester Street at Essex, Manhattan

Saturday & Sunday, August 24 & 25, 2013

Artists & Fleas: Artists & Fleas in Williamsburg and Chelsea Market is packed with so many amazing things to see, from vintage wares to fashion, jewelry, t-shirts and much more. This market has a distinct aesthetic that I absolutely love, sort of a combination of the beautiful cleverness of an Anthropologie store combined with a distinct Brooklyn attitude. Chelsea Market Pop-Up, 10AM-7PM, Chelsea Market, 75 9th Ave., Manhattan; Williamsburg, 70 North 7th St., 10AM – 7PM, Brooklyn

ID Pop Shop in Chelsea Market: This fabulous pop-up shop is open through the end of the weekend only. It will most likely pop back up soon, but if you want to shop directly from some of New York’s finest independent designers, do not miss it this time around. It’s as exciting as it sounds! Inside Chelsea Market, 75 Ninth Avenue at 15th Street, Manhattan

LIC Flea & Food: This market has really made a name for itself in the short months since it launched earlier this summer. There’s a reason for that: really great vendors. Check out the enthusiastic artisan, flea and food entrepreneurs, many of whom are based in Queens. 10AM – 6PM, 46th Avenue and 5th Street, Queens

SoHa Square Flea and Saturday Farmers Market: I am so excited to see this new farmers market open successfully in conjunction with this South Harlem neighborhood flea market. The flea is open Saturday and Sunday, and the farmers market is open Saturday and Thursday. 10AM – 6PM,  2171 Frederick Douglass Blvd., Manhattan

Sunday, August 25, 2013

LES Flea: The LES Flea is Hester Street’s new neighborhood yard sale! With the Fair on Saturdays, the Hester Street crew decided to open a market where regular old people on the Lower East Side,(i.e. not professional market vendors) can go and sell their stuff to other regular old people like you and me. Clear out or fill up your own closet! 11AM – 5PM, Hester Street at Essex, Manhattan

Enjoy your late summer weekend!
