Nothing says “hot summer in the city” better than comfy, sexy cut-off shorts. These Daisy Dukes are from The Indie Style Society and Meghann Early at Artists & Fleas. Meghan takes previously loved jeans, cuts them into shorts and then shreds them strategically. She dyes them in fun colors, like these lime green ones, and washes them twice to fix the color. She adds cool detailing, like rows of studs. I understand that Meghanm can also make custom hip hotpants from your own favorite jeans! So go this weekend and make the most of the rest of summertime!
And here are this weekend’s Market Picks!
Saturday Only, July 28, 2012
East 67th Street Flea Market: I believe this year is the 33rd anniversary of this classic flea market on the Upper East Side! You can find some really good fleas as well as a variety of food and farm produce. (6AM – 5PM, In PS 183, East 66th and East 67th Streets between 1st and York Avenues, Manhattan)
Fort Greene Greenmarket: When tomatoes come into season, you’ve got to hit this market. Wilklow Orchards has an incredible variety of heirloom tomatoes, and lots of samples! It’s a lovely, happy market. (8AM – 5PM, Washington Park between DeKalb & Willoughby, along the SE corner of Fort Greene Park, Brooklyn)
Saturday & Sunday, July 28 + 29, 2012
Nolita Market: Going shopping in Soho this weekend? Make sure you top by this market because you will find some fantastic accessories, jewelry, tees and more. (11AM – 6PM, Prince Street between Mulberry & Mott, Manhattan)
St. Anthony’s Market: Also in Soho, this market sets up along the sidewalk on Hudson Street with a great variety of sellers with unique and unusual products, including clothing, jewelry, look-alike sunglasses, and more. (10AM – 8PM, West Houston Street between Thompson and MacDougal Streets, Manhattan)
Sunday Only, July 29, 2012
Greenflea: I always think of this large flea, artisan and food market as the Sunday bookend to the East 67th Street Flea. This market takes place in the schoolyard and inside the school cafeteria of MS 44, with lovely antiques, vintage clothing, and a nice range of handmade items. (10AM – 5:30PM, Columbus Avenue between 76th and 77th Streets, Manhattan)
79th Street Greenmarket: One of the larger farmers markets in the city, this one is incredibly picturesque. It takes place beneath the tall trees alongside the Natural History Museum. It is also right across Columbus Avenue from the Greenflea, so I like to encourage people to visit both. (8AM – 5PM, Columbus Avenue between 78th & 81st Streets, Manhattan)
I just have to give a shout out for the Olympics! I am looking forward to all the coverage from London! What’s your favorite Olympic sport?
