Weekend Market Picks June 10 & 11, 2017: a Studio By The Sea

Bluebird of Happiness by Jody A. Lee, a Studio By The Sea

Teensy Bluebird of Happiness by Jody A. Lee, a Studio By The Sea

This  lovely birdie jewerly box is handmade by Jody A, Lee of a Studio By The Sea. When you see her work in person, you will fall in love with everything she makes, which includes lampwork glass beads and figures (look for the cupcakes – they’re insanely perfect), illustrated greeting cards, and even a collection of adorable fabric monsters. Like all very creative people, Jody obviously has many different talents. Check out her Etsy store online, and look for her at New York Handmade Collective events in the city.

It’s going to be a scorcher, the first hot hot weekend of the year. So you can definitively put away your jackets and closed-toed shoes and pull out your shorts and sandals to hit these great markets and special events, especially if you love food and amazing crafts.

Enjoy the heat and remember – everyone loves the smell of sunblock!

Weekend Market Pics

Saturday, June 10, 2017

Girl Power Fair at Hester Street: Imagine a market filled with women-owned creative entrepreneurs. It becomes a reality this weekend with the Hester Street Fair and the Lower East Side Girls Club! There will be music and a variety of classes alongside handmade crafts and food purveyors! 11AM – 6PM, Hester Street at Essex Street, Manhattan

Italian Charities of America Flea Market: If you’re looking to get inside New York’s cupboards and closets, here’s your chance. The community will be bringing previously loved fleas and antiques, as well as “handmade and home made treasures.” 9AM – 4PM, 83-20 Queens Boulevard, Elmhurst, Queens,

Queens Night Market: Yup, this is a great place to spend a Saturday night in New York City. They’ll have live music, food vendors selling bites from across the borough (i.e. the World), and handmade craft artisans, not to mention a beer and wine garden. It’s going to be a good weekend to spend an evening outside. 6PM – midnight, New York Hall of Science, Corona Park 47-01 111th Street, Queens

SVA Makers Market: Recent grads and alums from the School of Visual Arts present their clothing, accessories, furniture, jewelry, housewares, and loads more! It’s wonderful show, where I first met the designer of the Keyboard Waffle Iron! Obviously, there will be loads of talented people there again, so don’t miss it. 11AM – 6PM, Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W 18th Street, Manhattan

Vegan Street Fair: This is a chance for all vegans to hang out and eat everything their hearts desire! Seriously dozens of vegan food purveyors will be there, and every plate is just $4. It’s a free event, and you can also get a VIP pass to skip the lines ($40 unlimited, or $6 for single use fast pass). This event is a  partnership between the Grand Bazaar NYC and Chilis on Wheels. 11AM – 5PM, Grand Bazaar, 100 West 77th Street at Columbus Avenue, Manhattan

Saturday & Sunday, June 10 & 11, 2017

Bleecker Street Artisan & Flea Market: Bleecker Street was once filled with artists and antique stores, and this market embodies that spirit. You’ll see tents and tables set up alongside Our Lady of Pompeii Church, which, by the way, is 125 years old this year, and you’ll find a fabulous bakelite collection, fun hats, vintage jewelry, original art, and many different things each weekend. 9AM – 7PM, on Bleeker between Carmine and Leroy Streets, Manhattan

Crafts at Lincoln Center: This is the first of two weekends of fine a craft artisans on the plaza at Lincoln Center. This event brings hundreds of top american craftspeople to a free public event. Keep an eye out for fabulous fiber artists and fine jewelry designers, as well as glass and wood artists. You’ll find unique fashion to spark up your wardrobe. Saturday 12Noon – 9PM, Sunday 10AM – 7PM, Lincoln Center, 64th Street at Columbus Avenue, Manhattan

LIC Flea & Taco Festival: Tacos are the greatest. You can fill them with all sorts of meaty and veggie delights, and you can try a zillion different kinds this weekend at LIC Flea! It’s a ticketed event to try all the tacos, but you can always find amazing food at the market, plus great vintage and handmade vendors, not to mention the all-Queens beer garden! 12PM – 5:30PM, 5-25 46th Avenue, Long Island City, Queens

Sunday, June 11, 2017

Badass Brooklyn Summer Fest: One of favorite events sponsored by Badass Brooklyn Animal Rescue, Summer Fest is geared towards the pups in Brooklyn. You’ll find cool handmade products, tasty treats, and drinks for 2- and 4-legged customers, as well, and also a doggie kissing booth, which is too adorable for words. 12Noon – 5PM, President Street at 3rd Avenue, Gowanus, Brooklyn

Housing Works Annual Open Air Street Fair: While this event isn’t exactly a market, it is fabulous, and Housing Works does tremendous work. So support their programs by picking up some amazing deals on vinyl, books, and CD’s for $1 each, plus clothing, furniture, and much more from the Soho Thrift Shop. Live music, snackfoods, and ice cream too, plus activities for kids. 10AM – 5PM, Housing Works Bookstore Cafe, 126 Crosby Street, Manhattan
