Weekend Market Picks, June 2 & 3, 2012: Four Flasks from Citybitz

Joan Huggard from Citybitz creates some of the most fabulous souvenirs of New York, bar none. She takes photos of New York icons, like the Chrysler and Flatiron buildings and the Brooklyn Bridge, as well as more subtle details of the city, such as the gorgeous subway station tiles and architectural details. The images are treated with resin and affixed to necklaces, earrings, cufflinks, mirrors, money clips, compacts and pill boxes. And then there are the flasks. Joan creates these pieces in four sizes, ranging from a single shot to 6 ounces of your favorite spirit. Who doesn’t need a quick nip every now and then (i.e. during the Twilight movies) without the fuss and muss of going to a bar? Find Citybitz this and most weekends at the Brooklyn Flea (Saturday in spot W43 and Sunday in spot M26). Follow Joan on Facebook and Twitter for updates! Father’s Day is coming up, and Citybitz can make your shopping easy this year!

And now for this weekend’s Market Picks! Lots of fun and unique events going on this weekend:

Saturday, June 2, 2012 Only

4th Annual Epic DUMBO Stoop Sale: I haven’t been to this event, but it sounds like an awesome flea market! If it’s anything like the London Terrace street fair, it’s probably something we won’t want to miss! And it is sponsored by our friends at Krrb, which makes it even better. (11:00AM – 5:00PM under The Archway, DUMBO, Brooklyn)

The Project Collective at the Dekalb Market: The Dekalb Market is hosting another awesome event with art, music, and their regular fair of local foods, drinks, and handmade artisan goods. The Project Collective event is a fundraiser for UpRoar Art, a non-profit working very hard to bring free or low-cost art education to Brooklyn Public Schools and other arts organization. Come enjoy art, food, and great shopping on Saturday! And remember that the Dekalb Market itself is open 7 days a week in downtown Brooklyn!  (10AM – 10PM, 138 Willoughby Street at Flatbush Ave, Brooklyn)

Sunday, June 2, 2012 Only

McGolrick Park Farmers’ Market: Community Markets is launching this new farmers market in Greenpoint featuring a fabulous array of produce and prepared foods, including my favorite Mortgage Apple Cakes, Orwasher’s Bakery and many more. (Every Sunday 11AM – 4PM Rain or Shine, Russell St. off Nassau Ave — on the Sidewalk Outside of the Park)

Cooper Park Farmers’ Market: This is also opening weekend for another new Community Markets venue in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. This market will be smaller, but still chock full of regional produce, bread, jams, pickles and fresh breads. (Every Sunday 11AM – 4PM Rain or Shine, Sidewalk on Maspeth Ave At Olive St.)

Saturday and Sunday, June 2 & 3, 2012

Artists & Fleas at Chelsea Market: This is the last weekend of the fabulous Artists & Fleas Pop-Up Market in Chelsea Market! Don’t miss the seeing this beautiful, distinctive market. And if you do miss it, their Williamsburg location is equally fabulous and open every weekend. (Saturday & Sunday, 10:30AM-8PM, on the corner of 10th Avenue & West 15th Street, Manhattan)

Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit: This outdoor art show runs through this weekend, so definitely make a point of wandering through. I love seeing the wide range of styles and the incredible talent evident under these tents in the Village. This art market has a venerable history, originally started in 1931 by Jackson Pollack and Willem De Kooning, and the tradition continues into their 82nd year. (Saturday & Sunday, University Place between East 12th and West 3rd Street)

And a shout out to Bushwick Open Studios going on all weekend! They even have their own iPhone app!
