Chelsea Triangle French Market: I am THRILLED to have this new food market open in the Meatpacking District The Bensidoun Group is a family owned business that produces most of the outdoor farmers markets in Paris, as well as several indoor food markets and the Vanves Flea Market. They also run markets in New York State and the Chicago French Market. And now they’re bringing the magic of artisanal French and French-influenced local food to the New York markets. Crest Fest Hardware Arts Show: Crest Hardware in Brooklyn is sponsoring this art show featuring 200 pieces of art made with items found in a hardware store. The festivities also include music, local food purveyors, and a handmade artisan market. I’ve not been to this event before, but it looks like fun, and some great market vendors are participating! (558 Metropolitan Avenue between Lorimer & Union, 1PM – 7PM, Brooklyn)
SUPER!market: This designer market has gotten a bit of a makeover. From what I hear, they have painted the walls in the venue and made a few more changes to make it easier to showcase the fine handmade jewelry and clothing there. Independent Designer Pop Shop: As I wrote earlier this week, the ID Pop Shop is celebrating their first year of existence and their 8th designer pop-up event. This one features 27 fantastic New York designers selling men’s and women’s clothing, handbags, jewelry of all styles, vases, pillows, cosmetic bags. It is taking place in the center of the Chelsea Market, so beat the heat, grab lunch inside and then go shopping! (75 9th Avenue, Chelsea Market, 10:30AM – 7:30PM through Monday, July 2nd, Manhattan)
Fulton Stall Market: I’m just fond of this market in the Seaport. This week they’re featuring foods from around the world: Taiwanese shaved ice, South American empanadas, Dutch poffertjes, and Italian preserves. It’s one of those markets with a great balance of food to eat right then and there, ingredients to take home, and handmade artisanal treasures. Cooper Park Farmers Market: The Community Markets organization launched this new market this season around Cooper Park in Williamsburg. Although it isn’t a large market, the vendors are outstanding and provide everything the community needs, including fresh produce, delicious bread, cheese, dairy, flowers and more. (Cooper Park, on the sidewalk on Maspeth Ave. at Olive St., 11AM – 4PM, rain or shine, Brooklyn)
And tomorrow Coney Island’s Cyclone Roller Coaster is celebrating its 85th Birthday! rides are 25 cents for the first 85 minutes after the noon opening. It’s going to be a scorcher this weekend, so drink lots of liquids and slather on the sunblock so you can stay pretty.
