Urbanspace Vanderbilt Food Hall

Grand Opening of the New Urbanspace Vanderbilt Food Hall

Congratulations to UrbanSpace NYC and 20 phenomenal food purveyors on the Grand Opening this week of the UrbanSpace Vanderbilt Food Hall! You will want to go with your friends and try out the delicious and unique savories and sweets from around the world, plus comfort foods like fried chicken, warm pretzels and freshly baked cookies, not to mention beer and wine. For anyone working near or passing through Grand Central, your food options just got better than ever!

I’ll be posting lots of photos of everything I tasted there later this weekend. (Spoiler: It was all delicious!) Open Saturdays and Sundays 9AM – 5PM, Mondays – Fridays 6:30AM – 9PM at the corner of 45th Street and Vanderbilt Avenue.

Weekend Market Picks!

Saturday, September 19, 2015

Astoria Flea & Food Night Market: This market has had such a great vibe during the day, with visitors and neighbors strolling through the outdoor lot at Kaufman Studios. The night-time adds romance and fun to the mix of food, artisan and flea shopping! 6PM – 11PM, Kaufman Astoria Studios, 34-12 36th Street, Queens

Hester Street Fair: SEC Tailgate Party on the Lower East Side! Head over to the Hester Street Fair to watch the big LSU vs. Auburn game on multiple large screens, plus beer pong and loads of amazing southern food, including Booqoo Beignets, a nominee for this year’s Vendy award! 11AM – 6PM, 25 Essex Street at the corner of Hester Street, Manhattan

NY Bike Jumble:  New and used bikes and equipment! And go see the super cool new Haute Réflecteur collection from Vespertine, the fabulous reflective fashion designer! 10AM – 4PM, Old Stone House at Fifth Avenue and 4th Street, Brooklyn

Queens International Night Market: Inspired by the markets in Asia, the Queens Night Market provides entertainment for everyone, plus craft artisans and a broad range of international foods, including two of my new favorites, Mahalo Bakery (tropical-inspired sweets) and Burmese Bites, another Vendy Award nominee!  6PM – 12AM, 90-02 168th Street, Queens

Saturday & Sunday, September 19 & 20, 2015

ID Pop Shop: This is the last weekend for the September edition of New York’s wonderful independent designer pop-up! 25 designers are there, with sunglasses, handbags, jewelry, clothing and decor. 10:30AM – 7:30PM, Inside Chelsea Market, 75 9th Avenue at 15th Street, Manhattan

LIC Flea Beer Fest: The LIC Flea has a great outdoor beer garden featuring $2 brews from seven Queens breweries from noon-2PM all weekend. They’ll be showing football on big screens too, plus their usual fantastic collection of artisan, flea and food vendors. 10AM – 6PM, 5-25 46th Ave, Long Island City, Queens

Phoenicia Flea at the Coney Island Art Walls: Check out this “well edited nomadic market of makers and merchants” that first launched in Phoenicia, New York last year. It looks like they are bringing a fantastic collection of vendors to the seashore! 11AM – 7PM, 1320 Bowery Street, Coney Island, Brooklyn

Queens County Fair: Some of my favorite childhood memories are from the county fairs. One year our bunny won Best In Show! So head over to the 33rd Annual Queens County Fair for more blue ribbons, livestock, fried food and hay rides! (Entry fee but free parking!) 11AM – 6PM,  7350 Little Neck Pkwy, Floral Park, Queens

Sunday, September 20, 2015

Astoria Outdoor Market: The Astoria Market is hosting a local craft artisan event in a beer hall. That’s just good planning. Shop for cool handmade things and enjoy a pitcher of beer in the outdoor space at Bohemian Hall. Zero chance of rain. 1PM – 5PM, 2919 24th Avenue, Astoria, Queens

Columbia Sunday Greenmarket: Located along the west side of Columbia University, this greenmarket is a big one! 19 local purveyors of produce, baked goods, proteins, dairy and flowers serve the neighborhood and the university community. 8AM – 3PM, 114th & 116th Streets, Manhattan

Flatbush Frolic Street Fair: It is the 40th Anniversary for this Brooklyn neighborhood street fair that invites local businesses, food purveyors, artisans and entertainers to participate in the fun! 11AM – 6PM, Cortelyou Road from Ocean Avenue to Coney Island Avenue, Brooklyn

Food Truck Rally: Here’s your chance to eat some of NYC’s finest, freshest, most innovative foods all together just outside Prospect Park! No need to chase them all over town on Sunday. 11AM – 6PM, Grand Army Plaza, Brooklyn
